What is Giftedness?

Identification of Potential Giftedness

General consensus world-wide agrees that true giftedness occurs in about three percent of the population. Research supports the fact that gifted individuals exhibit high levels of functioning in

the following areas;

  1.     cognitive

  2.     affective/social emotional

  3.     physical/sensory

  4.     intuitive

Characteristics of giftedness will vary, no one child will have all of these characteristics . Identification of potential giftedness must employ multiple criteria to fairly assess every child.
